Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Spinal Conditions

Free consultation for all new MSK injection patients.

Includes:
-Physical Examination
-Ultrasound Scan (If required)
-Detailed explanation of your diagnosis and treatment options, risks and benefits.

MSK and Spinal Injection Consultations are FREE.

Please note that we can only inject the spine and pelvis with Prolotherapy / Prolozone.

We perform ultrasound guided injections for musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, tendinopathy / tendonitis, bursitis, Morton’s neuroma, frozen shoulder, sports injuries and muscle tears. The injectable substances include Cortisone (Steroid), Hyaluronic Acid, Arthrosamid and Prolozone. This depends on the condition and which is most suitable. Sometimes a combination of the above is most suitable. This will be discussed with you in detail before going ahead. In addition to MSK areas, Prolotherapy/ Prolozone can also be injected into the spine and pelvis to address neck pain, back pain, sacroiliac joint pain and tail bone pain.
The initial consultation would normally involve a case history and an ultrasound scan if deemed necessary. An injection can sometimes be performed on the same day, depending on the type.

About Our MSK And Spinal Services

  • MSK only

In some cases we can use cortisone to reduce inflammation and pain in an area. It is a long acting steroid anti inflammatory which is very effective in the short to medium term. If suitable, this can be used alone or in conjunction with hyaluronic acid for a longer term effect.

  • In cases of a frozen shoulder, hydrodistension, also known as hydrodilatation can be used to attempt to expand the shoulder capsule and loosen adhesions.

High volume injections of local anaesthetic, cortisone and saline are injected into the shoulder joint. Increasing amounts of saline are applied, forcing the joint capsule to expand, breaking adhesions, increasing the range of movement of the joint. Sometimes an audible “pop” is heard as the capsule adhesions release. This can be an effective approach when usual approaches have failed. Click here for more information

HA is an effective, single injection alternative to steroid injections. It is especially useful in mild to moderate arthritis of weight bearing joints such and knees and hips. It can also be used in tendon sheath issues to reduce inflammation and pain. The two main advantages of HA over steroid are:
    1) Good quality HA injections usually give relief for longer periods than steroid, typically lasting for up to 26 weeks.
    2) HA doesn’t weaken joints with repeated injections unlike steroid so can be repeated indefinitely.

We use the best quality HA available. Durolane for joints due to its highly cross linked nature, giving longer lasting relief (more info at https://durolane.com/en). For tendons we use Ostenil tendon (more info at https://ostenil.trbchemedica.co.uk/patient-information/tendon-injections)

Prolotherapy and Prolozone injections offer pain relief without the use of cortisone. Prolotherapy injections consist of local anaesthetic and dextrose. The dextrose acts as an irritant and promotes healing and improved ligament integrity. This is especially useful in cases of mild joint instability. Prolozone injections consist of local anaesthetic and a variable mix of homeopathic anti-inflammatory, dextrose and medical ozone gas. Resolution of pain is typically within 3-6 sessions with 75% being full resolutions to the condition. 25% may need a top up every few months. As well as musculoskeletal areas (arms and legs), we can also offer prolozone injections to the spine and pelvis for complaints such as neck pain, back pain and coccyx (tail bone) pain.

Prolozone can be combined hyaluronic acid as required

  • Knees only

Arthrosamid is a single injection treatment for anything from mild to severe knee osteoarthritis. Is it based on an innovative, non bio-degradable hydrogel technology and is actually classed as an implant. When injected in to the knee Athrosamid has been shown to provide a structural cushioning, reducing pain for a sustained period of time. Studies are suggesting years of pain relief.
